In the meantime, I wanted to share some of the most inspiring resources I found on rainbow cakes so far,
- "Best-Rainbow-Cake-Tutorial" Rainbow Cake from Aleta at Omnomicon
The most extensive tutorial that I have come across so far. The photos were lovely and I kinda like how offbeat her cake turned out. I noted that tip about using gel colors vs the food coloring or pigment dyes.
- The "How-Did-She-Do-That?" Rainbow Cake from Tickly Moo at the Tickly Moo Blog
I am no cake master so I am not sure how she managed to create the inside-out layers here. Anyone? And oh yes, I stumbled into her etsy store and she makes the cutest felt crowns!
- "Six-Colors-Only-But-Very-Neat" Rainbow Cake from Meaghan at A Typical Life
OK so I am shallow - I like the colors on my rainbow cake to be neatly and clearly delineated so this one was probably my fave of the lot. I am also probably going to try this method for my first rainbow cake.
- The "Special-Effects-Category-Winner" Rainbow Cake from Happy Belly via Flickr
Oooh I like how she used the toothpick to create the spiderweb effect!

OH my GOSH! these are SO cool! now i need one, and luckily, i love cake. :)

I'm planning a rainbow cake for my son's 2nd bday this year - well, I'm not making it, my sis-in-law will be! have you checked out Chocolatesuze's blog? She has turned out some excellent rainbow cakes: http://www.chocolatesuze.com/

Amber Dawn,
I should apologize for posting this and infecting you with the same "want" as I now have suffering from. *haha*
Sandy,
Ditto. And I will definitely post some photos when I do! Regardless of how it turns out. :o)
Xiaolinmama
Well, you're going to have to rope them in to help finish it. I wonder how wierd it would be for me to add different flavours to the cake colors too. Hmm . . . .
Judith,
Oooh! Take some photos when SIL does! Yes I stumbled upon her blog when her site came up on Google for "rainbow cake". Beautiful photos and site!

cake is a nice dessert, but it's easy to get fat, so try to eat less...
