When I first saw a rainbow cake, the sheer amount of work I thought would be behind it dissuaded me from even looking up how to make one. But I stumbled upon a tutorial (link provided below) that walked me through it step by step and suddenly this amateur-baker is itching, just ITCHING to give it a try. I should have just let things go but I foolishly made the mistake of looking up "rainbow cake" on Flickr and well, let's just say that I am probably going to go get some extra cake pans and gel color for a little experiment one weekend.

The most extensive tutorial that I have come across so far. The photos were lovely and I kinda like how offbeat her cake turned out. I noted that tip about using gel colors vs the food coloring or pigment dyes.

I am no cake master so I am not sure how she managed to create the inside-out layers here. Anyone? And oh yes, I stumbled into her etsy store and she makes the cutest felt crowns!

OK so I am shallow - I like the colors on my rainbow cake to be neatly and clearly delineated so this one was probably my fave of the lot. I am also probably going to try this method for my first rainbow cake.
